The Virtual Nursing Career Fair will be held on the following dates:
- Acute and Post-Acute Care Interviews: October 19
- Mental Health and Addiction Interviews: October 20

Based on the pre-screening, applicants will be selected to participate in the Virtual Nursing Career Fair where they will be interviewed by hiring managers. You will hear from us with a time slot and login details if you are selected to participate in the Virtual Nursing Career Fair.

You would be a great candidate if you:
- Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Hold a current BCLS certification
- Have a demonstrated interest in ongoing education, an orientation to continuous learning, and continuous quality improvement in healthcare practices.
- Are organized and flexible to adapt to rapidly changing environments
- Thrive as a valued team player and contributor
- Are professional and courteous
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and all members of the health care team

The Virtual Nursing Career Fair will be held over two days. Interviews for Acute and Post-Acute Care positions will occur on October 19 and interviews for Mental Health and Addiction positions will occur on October 20.

Qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule a pre-screening appointment. At the pre-screening appointment, you will be asked which program areas you are interested in. If you are selected to participate in the Virtual Nursing Career Fair, you will be interviewed by one or more hiring managers from the program area(s) that you are most qualified and interested in.

Successful candidates will be presented with a conditional job offer subject to acceptable references at the Virtual Nursing Career Fair with a start date in November 2021.

Keilagh Stewart, RN, Nursing Resource Team and Interim Nurse Manager, Alternate Level of Care (ALC)
It was the practical side of Keilagh Stewart that drew her to the field of nursing; she was looking for a job with guaranteed employment. Now eight years into her career, she can’t imagine doing anything else.
“There’s something about nurses and the connection we are able to form with patients. There’s something about being somebody who can provide care at a very honest level for people, and being a part of someone’s goals, no matter how big or small.”
Working with the Nursing Resource Team has been advantageous for Keilagh. It has given her the opportunity to explore many avenues within the profession, including General Internal Medicine, Alternate Level of Care, Surgery and the Emergency Department.
“I think there’s a lot of opportunity for growth here. I’ve done a lot of professional training through St. Joe’s, including the Emerging Leaders Program and I’ve been really supported while adding to my skills.”
The variety that comes with the Nursing Resource Team has also allowed Keilagh to foster connections across the organization.

Ashish Doomra, RN, Forensic Psychiatry Program
“I went into nursing for one simple reason, I wanted to help individuals of all ages and all ethnicities,” says York University graduate, Ash Doomra.
The 27-year old also knew he wanted to work at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. “I wanted to work in mental health. I did my research. I saw St. Joe’s is renowned for its clinical practice and patient centred approach to treatment.”
He began five years ago as a new graduate, working on the Nursing Resource Team at the West 5th Campus. The position allowed him to explore many areas of mental health care, but it was forensic psychiatry that fully captured his interest.
“I was really keen on the criminal justice system and the mental health system.”
For the last four years he has worked with the forensic psychiatry program while obtaining his Master’s of Clinical Nursing, fully supported by St. Joe’s through work accommodation and educational grants.
Beyond professional development, Ash says St. Joe’s encourages a healthy work/life balance. He utilizes Wellness programs for staff, “…particularly the mindfulness group. It’s really me to helped me to cope, especially with the stressors of the pandemic.”
Samantha Patten, RPN, Clinical Teaching Unit West
Starting out as a new nurse during the pandemic wasn’t easy but Samantha Patten always felt supported as she transitioned into her role as an RPN at St. Joe’s.
“You’re not a one-man team here. Your patient is not just your patient, they’re everybody’s patient. The staff have been very helpful and friendly, and our team’s leadership has tried to find different ways for us to recognize one another, including a ‘star of the month’ program.”
Samantha started her career as a Personal Support Worker after her experience taking care of her father who was ill with lung cancer. She then went back to school to become an RPN and was hired at St. Joe’s in a permanent position in March 2021 after completing clinical placements on the Complex Care and Surgical units. Even though she is now out of school, she hasn’t stopped learning.
“Not only are there funded courses you can take to continue your education but you’re also learning on the job every day. You are encouraged to ask questions and you can get great feedback from the other nurses on your team. I’ve learned so much in the little time I’ve been here.”
Along with support from her team members, having access to St. Joe’s digital health information system, Dovetale, has helped Samantha feel more confident as she builds her experience as a nurse.
“Dovetale is a great tool to have. There are reminders that help you remember certain tasks you have to complete and everything you need, all the records, are right there, in one place.”
