Careers / Learners/ How to Arrange a Placement

Interested in a Placement at St. Joseph's?

Interested in a Placement at St. Joseph's?

St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) gives priority to placements for learners registered with the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University and Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Sciences. However, when possible every effort is made to accommodate students from other universities/colleges that we are affiliated with.

Please be aware that the availability of and numbers of placements in specific areas is subject to change from semester to semester. We must be able to accommodate the learner by present budget, staffing level, and not interfere with corporate/unit initiatives.

Placement experiences are offered to ensure learning objectives are met while meeting the needs of our patients, families, and units in keeping with our Mission, Vision and Values.

We expect the following from our learners:

  • To uphold the Mission and Values of SJHH
  • To follow the policies and procedures of the Hospital
  • To be supervised by a SJHH staff person or medical staff member or a supervisor provided by the partner learner institution
  • To ensure patient/client safety and care are not compromised
  • Complete all the required documentation and learning to work safely

SJHH reserves the right to:

    1. Participate in the selection of learners for placement
    2. Suspend (dismiss) any student whose conduct jeopardizes the well-being of patients/clients or staff
    3. Set rules/guidelines/requirements for specific services, atypical placements and specialized units
